GOC Restates Commitment To Development-Driven Partnerships

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah has reaffirmed the Division’s unwavering support to organisations committed to national, peace, and infrastructural development. He made this known when he received in audience the Deputy Head of Security and Community Affairs, Department, Ibom Developers, Colonel Veteran Awinnash Kumar (Rtd) at Headquarters, 6 Division in Port Harcourt Barracks today, 29 April 2025.

The GOC, who received the team, emphasized that the NA remains fully aligned with the Federal Government of Nigeria’s vision for national development, stressing that peace and progress are interwoven. He described the operations of Ibom Developers as being in tandem with the NA’s core mandate of securing the nation, for sustainable growth and development. He added that the Division under his watch would continue to give all necessary support in ensuring that the organisation achieve its mandate.

While expressing delight over the military background of the Deputy Head, the GOC noted that the shared military heritage between Nigeria and India serves as a foundation for deeper understanding and synergy. He equally stated that the Indian military laid the foundation for the officer’s cadet training at the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Earlier, the Deputy Head of Security and Community Affairs, Colonel Awinnash Kumar (Rtd) said he was at the Division to formally introduce himself to the GOC. He further stressed that such a platform creates an opportunity to strengthen already existing collaboration between Ibom Developers and the NA. He stated that the team look forward to continued operational support, assuring that they remain open and willing to engage with the NA.

Relatedly, the Acting Director, Institute of Niger Delta Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Dr Gift Chukwu-Okeah led members of his team on a courtesy call to the GOC. The visit was aimed at fostering collaboration and strengthening relationships between the Institution and the NA. The Acting Director discussed potential areas of cooperation, including research, training, and community development initiatives.

He also emphasized that the Department have gotten the approval of the University of Port Harcourt Senate to run post-graduate programmes in security studies, as well as economy and maritime studies. These courses, he said have a lot to do with NA and the military generally. Speaking further, Dr Chukwu-Okeah noted that the institute is willing to offer admission to personnel with a waiver of a 50 per cent registration fee.

The GOC, while appreciating them for finding time to visit, assured them of his support and advised them to collaborate with military institutions, such as the Nigerian Defence Academy and Nigerian Army Resource Centre to assist in training students on internship.
