Headquarters 13 Brigade Nigerian Army Calabar Hosts 82 Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition

Headquarters 13 Brigade Nigerian Army has hosted the 82 Division Corporal and Below Competition 2024 in Akim Barracks, Calabar. The 5 days competition kick started on Monday, 15 April 2024 with drill competition as part of the opening ceremony, which took place at 146 Battalion Parade Ground Eburutu Cantonment, Calabar.

The competition is an annual exercise aimed at improving the leadership and organizing team spirit among young soldiers under the Division with the view to prepare them to undertake more challenging responsibilities. The participating formations from the Division AOR are 82 Division Garrison, 13 Brigade as host formation, 14 Brigade, 34 Artillery Brigade, and 44 Engineer Brigade. The participants competed in Drill Competition, Weapon Handling, Range Classification, Combat Swimming, Map Reading, 5 km Run, Fitness Test, Obstacle Crossing and 10km Run.

The Special Guest of Honor and General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General HT Dada who was ably represented by the 82 Division Training Officer, Brig Gen OO Ejere in his remarks said the competition is aimed at improving sportsmanship amongst soldiers in the Division in line with the Chief of Army Staff Command Philosophy which is “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions Within a Joint Environment in Defense of Nigeria”. Therefore, he enjoined the participants to display high level of competitive spirit in a healthy environment.

During the opening ceremony, the Chief host and Commander 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig Gen MO Ibrahim in his welcome address urged the participants to put in their best and request that the Umpires be neutral and give all competitors equal opportunities.

Headquarters 13 Brigade emerged first position with the total points 6940, 14 Brigade came Second position and Third position went to 82 Divison respectively. Present at the occasion were commanders of sister services, heads of paramilitary agencies, commanding officers, officers, soldiers and members of the barrack community.

The event was climaxed with presentation of awards to individuals and formations that distinguished themselves in different categories of the events. Attached are pictures of formations that emerged first in different events.
