Ighalo Slams Rumours of Unavailability for Olympics
Nigerian striking jewel Odion Ighalo has declared himself ready to don the nation’s colours at the 2016 Rio Olympics football event.
Ighalo, 27, was included in U23 coach Samson Siasia’s 35-man preliminary squad for the tournament as one of four overage players vying for the three available spots in the Dream Team VI squad, and the former Udinese and Grenada striker has dismissed claims that he would not be available for the quadrennial event.
“No! No!! No!!! That’s just a rumour,” Ighalo told The Cable . “Which player in the world won’t want to be at the Olympics?”
“I have said it several times that it is one of my dreams to play at the Olympics.
“I never said I won’t be there and there’s no issue concerning my availability for the games.
“I wish the Olympics were now, now, now. I wish to play in it right away,” he concluded.
Ighalo is one of the bright sparks of Nigerian football at the moment after a prolific season with Watford in the English Premier League where he scored 17 goals in 42 appearances, and will give the Dream Team VI an extra dimension in attack with his pace and power.
