Imposter posing As Air Force Officer Arrested After Beating A police Woman In Traffic

In an unlucky twist of fate, Lucky Onofua, a fake Squadron Leader of the Nigerian Air Force was arrested after he beat up a female sergeant who was on traffic duty in the Egbeda area of Lagos.

The 34-year-old man who posed as an Air Force officer,  got out of his vehicle which had slightly hit the victim and allegedly flogged the female officer because she dared to stop his SUV at an intersection in Egbeda on Monday. The policewoman whose name is yet to be released then sprawled on the floor and refused to let go of Onofua’s clothes until passersby intervened and put a call through to the Shasha Police Division as the incident had caused quite a stir.

Mr. Lucky who insisted he was an air force officer, refused to identify himself when policemen got to the scene, and was taken to the station where two Wing Commanders of the Nigerian Air Force from the Ikeja base identified him as an impostor at the station after a call was put through to verify Onofua’s claim.

Speaking to Punch, a police source stated:

“The Divisional Police Officer asked the suspect to come in so that they could talk like gentlemen. The DPO asked him to identify himself and he said he had forgotten his ID card at home. The DPO then secretly called an Air Commodore to verify the man’s claim. Two Wing Commanders from the Air Force base at PWD were thereafter sent to the division. That was how Onofua’s bubble burst and he was arrested.”

The suspect later confessed that he wanted to become an Air Force officer and that he had some friends in the force which prompted officers to check his apartment for guns or military uniforms on Tuesday.

Dolapo Badmos, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police confirmed the arrest, noting that investigation was ongoing.

“The suspect will be charged to court for serious assault and impersonation. He allegedly hit the sergeant with his vehicle, and came down to whip the policewoman all over. The Nigerian Air Force authorities were invited and we discovered that the man was an impostor. We are currently investigating the matter.”
