Insecurity: Gunmen kill 4 oil workers and abduct 6 in Bayelsa

Gunmen suspected to be pirates have killed 4 oil workers who were involved in pipeline maintenance owned by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company.

This was disclosed on Sunday by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps spokesman, the suspected pirates ambushed their unsuspecting victims in Okoroma and Ogbokiri-Akassa communities of Nembe and Brass Local Government areas of Bayelsa.

The NSCDC spokesman said those killed were two workers, a driver and a security operative at a facility in Nembe, Bayelsa state, which feeds oil and gas to the Brass export terminal.

What they are saying

“During a routine work some gunmen yesterday attacked some contract workers doing some repair works at the Nembe axis of Obama flow station killing two contract workers, and a driver,” Ogbere, the NSDC spokesman said on Sunday.

He added that one of his men was also killed and two others who sustained injuries are receiving treatment. “One personnel was killed while the other two that were missing have been found and are responding to treatment,” he said.

NAN also reports that the Agip oil workers and their security personnel came under attack at about 6 am, as six oil workers allegedly doing maintenance job close to their platform were kidnapped and whisked away.

The Nembe community is presently the source of Nigeria’s recent oil spill, which happened on November 5th, as the FG directed AITEO Eastern Exploration and Production Company Ltd (AEEPCo), to cease operations in the Nembe oil spill area of Bayelsa State until a proper investigation is carried out.

Last week, the Danish military reported that a frigate ship killed four pirates on Southern Nigerian waters, off the Gulf of Guinea.
