Inter Agency Cooperation: NSCDC Commandant Sues For Escalation Of Synergy

The Rivers State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Basil Igwebueze has called for the escalation of existing synergy between the State Command of the NSCDC and 6 Division Nigerian Army. The Commandant made this call as he led management staff of his command on a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army Major General Jamal Abdussalam.

The Commandant who described the relationship between the Nigerian Army and the Civil Defense Corps as that of a Father and Son, noted with appreciation the multiple roles the military has played in mentoring officers and men of the corps especially in the area of training. He pledged the cooperation of the command and called assistance as may arise from time to time.

Responding, the General Officer Commanding(GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army Major General Jamal Abdussalam thanked the Commandant for the visit. He described the relationship between the Nigerian Army and the Civil Defense Corps as historical noting that the corps has grown to be a reliable ally.

He commended the level of professionalism exhibited by the corps especially amongst the officers cadre and urged the Commandant to talk to the men to step up same. The GOC pledged the commitment of the Division towards assisting the Corps when the need arises; as was the case not too long ago when personnel of the Corps came under attack in Emuoha Local Government Area Council. He recalled the quick intervention of soldiers on duty not too far away who confronted the criminals.

He called on the NSCDC to always share intelligence even as the Division would do the same. He equally enjoined the Commandant to feel free to utilize the mess and other recreational facilities within the cantonment in order to cement further the good relationship between the 2 services.

Highpoint of the visit was the exchange of souvenirs and visit to the Division’s mascot.
