Jada Pinkett Calls Out Hollywood for Not Nominating Her Film In Golden Globes

Jada Pinkett initially said she would not criticise the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for shutting out her film, Girls Trip from the Golden Globes, but she eventually took to her Twitter to vent.

And she spoke facts.

Girls Trip had stirred major buzz after it premiered. It was a favourite of many people and one of the stars, actress-comedian Tiffany Haddish, won a New Yolk Film Circle award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film. That deserved nod was reason why many people expected that the film with get some nods at the Golden Globes, but they were shocked when the film was completely shut out of the awards list.

Speaking on her Twitter last night, Jada Pinkett said it’s neither a fluke, nor fair. In fact, she accused the organisation of refusing even to screen Girls Trip for consideration.

I’m not upset about @TiffanyHaddish or @GirlsTripMovie not getting a nom… I’m discouraged about the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press/@goldenglobes wouldn’t even WATCH the movie,” she said.

She went on, suggesting that the race and gender of the film’s stars may have being the reason why the organisation decided to omit the film from their Golden Globe nominations. And she stated facts to back up her claims, noting that top films by black people, like Jordan Peele’s epic ‘Get Out’, was filed under ‘comedy’ by the organisation.

And why is she calling out the organisation for this blatant racism? She wants things to change. “Moments like this occur so that we have an opportunity to discuss, recreate and regenerate old paradigms,” she said.

Will the racism end? Hopefully.
