John Legend Slams ‘Serial Child Rapist’ R Kelly After Documentary Appearance
The first of the six-part Lifetime series “Surviving R. Kelly” aired on Thursday, and John Legend is the only star to feature in the docu-series.
The network says 50 interviews will be included in the documentary where “survivors and people from R. Kelly’s inner circle, are coming forward with new allegations about his sexual, mental, and physical abuse.”
Producer Dream Hampton in an interview on Detroit Free Press said while making the series, they asked JAY-Z, Lady Gaga, Dave Chappelle, Celine Dion, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, Lil Kim and Questlove to appear as they have been all critical of him in the past
Tweeting about his appearance in the series, John Legend said on Twitter:
We should all thank my friend @dreamhampton for her very necessary work to create #SurvivingRKelly. These survivors deserved to be lifted up and heard. I hope it gets them closer to some kind of justice.
To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn’t feel risky at all. I believe these women and don’t give a f*** about protecting a serial child rapist. Easy decision.
Also I’m happy to support the work of people like my friends at @ALongWalkHome who have been speaking out on behalf of the survivors for a long time.
