Ninjaman has been sentenced to life in prison and can only be eligible for parole after 25 years.

According to Jaimaca Observer, the legendary dancehall singer was handed the sentence in the Home Circuit Court yesterday for the March 2009 murder of Ricardo Johnson. The singer was given 20 years for shooting with intent, and then a life imprisonment for murder.

Ninjaman’s son Jahneil, and a third man, Dennis Clayton, were also handed life sentences. Both will be eligible for parole after 15 years.

Recall that Ninjaman whose real name is Desmond Ballentyne, rose to fame with his pro-gun lyrics and melodramatic showmanship. Some of his hit singles that took his works abroad include, Hortical Don, People Dead, Gun Bogle, Dirt Heart, and more. The legendary singer also made appearances in movies including, Shabba at Showdown, Rude Boy: The Jamaican Don, Sting Jamaica etc.

In 2009, the controversial artiste was remanded in custody for shooting Ricardo Johnson over a domestic dispute. He was in jail for three years before he was offered bail.

On November 20, he and his accomplices were found guilty, and all were sentenced yesterday.

Surprisingly, the legendary singer wasn’t shaken by the sentencing, because pressmen report that he gave everyone a thumbs up sign right after the sentence was handed down.
