Lewis Hamilton Wins Canadian GP to Close in on Rosberg
Lewis Hamilton has won the Canadian Grand Prix after a tense duel with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.
After a slow start to the season coming off the back of a slump towards the end of last campaign, Hamilton has now won two races on the bounce following his victory at the Monaco GP two weeks ago.
It was the fifth win on Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the British driver and the 45th of his Formula One career.
Hamilton’s Mercedes started on the pole position but Vettel jumped in front at the start and led for the first half of the race. After his Ferrari gave up the lead with a pit stop in Lap 38, he spent the rest of the 70 laps trying to catch Hamilton, a task very few succeed at.
The win put Hamilton within nine points of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, who finished fifth.
“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,” Hamilton radioed in seconds after crossing the finish line. “That was for Ali.”
