Lieutenant General TY Buratai, Brigadier General SK Usman Visit Former President Buhari In Daura

Last Friday, Brigadier General SK Usman had the honour of accompanying His Excellency, Lieutenant General TY Buratai (rtd) CFR, (Magayakin Kasar Hausa), the former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, on a visit to the renowned and ancient town of Daura in Katsina State, Nigeria.

The purpose of this historic trip was primarily to pay respects to an esteemed elder statesman, the immediate past President of of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency General Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, and to congratulate him on his successful leadership over the past eight years. We also wished him well in his future endeavours and expressed our gratitude for his support to the former Chief of Army Staff, the nation, and humanity as a whole.

A visit to Daura would be incomplete without paying homage to the Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness Farouk Umar Farouk CFR. Therefore, in addition to praying together at the same Jumma’at mosque with the Emir and former President Muhammad Buhari, we also had the privilege of visiting the palace.

It was a delightful experience that evoked fond memories of this over 3,000-year-old place and the wonderful people of Daura. One remarkable aspect of the Emir was his intellect, energetic demeanour, and impressive grasp of matters, despite being over 91 years old. We took the opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for his paternal love and support.

Throughout our visit, we were treated with remarkable hospitality and enjoyed a delectable and satisfying lunch provided by Alhaji Mamman Daura and His Excellency, Ambassador Muntari Ali Daura. My dear friend, Alhaji Rabe, too insisted that I bring back some of Daura’s famous “Fura da Nono” to Abuja.

This visit will forever remain etched in my memory as one of the most significant social engagements of my life. It was enlightening, rewarding, and humbling in many ways. Above all, it reaffirmed my commitment to embody honesty, transparency, and humility. I wouldn’t have missed such a valuable opportunity for anything.
