Magu Warns Local Government Chairmen and Councillors Against Graft

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has warned newly elected local government chairmen and Councillors in Edo State against acts of corruption and economic and financial crimes.

The Acting Chairman who was represented by Mailafia Yakubu, Benin Zonal Head stated this today, March 15, 2018 at the on-boarding programme for newly elected chairmen and Councillors in the State.

Speaking on the topic: What is Corruption?, The EFCC acting chairman stated that corruption constitutes Nigeria’s biggest problem and that all hands must be on deck to halt the rampaging monster. “Corruption is the reason for our underdevelopment. It is the reason our hospitals are are not functioning well. It is the reason our educational system are on the decline.”

He charged the newly elected local government chairmen and Councillors to embrace transparency and accountability as the EFCC will not spare anyone that is found wanting. ‘Let contentment be your guiding principle. We urge you to walk the straight and narrow part.”

He further warned that even if there were no petitions against them, the Commission has special power to cause investigation to be conducted on any of them if it is noticed that such a person was living beyond his resources.
