Maj. Gen. Ugbo Lauds Efforts Of Army Personnel In Fight Against Insurgency In The North East As Army Headquarters Holds Sensitization Workshop In Yobe State

At the Army Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Affairs Sensitization Workshop organised for troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, Buni Gari on 12 March 2024, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (CCMA), Major General NC Ugbo during his Opening Remarks used the opportunity to state that the Nigerian Army is proud of the remarkable success achieved by the Brigade so far. He however enjoined troops to carry out their constitutional responsibilities and clear all areas of the North East of terrorists and criminal elements in order to ensure return of socio-economic activities while respecting human rights and the sanctity of protected objects within their area of responsibility. The CCMA further implored the troops to conduct themselves within global standards, bearing in mind our unique operating environment.

The Commander 27 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General MG Abubakar, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for granting approval for the conduct of the Sensitization Workshop for personnel of the Brigade. He identified transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law by troops as critical elements for preventing abuse of powers and human rights violations.

The lecture titled “The Proper Conduct of the Nigerian Soldier within the larger Nigerian Society’’ which covered the provisions of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law as they affect the conduct of armed conflict, the establishment of the Armed Forces, Roles of the Nigerian Army, Fundamental Human Rights under the 1999 Constitution as amended, Defence Headquarters Policy on Social Media and establishment of the Civil-Military Legal Desk/Call Centre was delivered by Major II Nibras and Lieutenant ID Obarein.

The major highlights of the workshop include; the interactive session, presentation of souvenirs, and group photograph.
