Mayweather v McGregor Slammed by Transgender Promoter
The eagerly anticipated billion dollar fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather has been labelled an “absolute insult” to boxing by promoter Kellie Maloney.
Ahead of this weekend’s clash in Las Vegas, transgender Maloney, who managed former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, piled on more criticism by saying the contest represents “everything that’s wrong about sport”, Sun writes.
“I won’t be watching the fight. I think it’s an absolute insult to the credibility of the noble art of boxing,” Maloney said.
“The governing body who have sanctioned this should be ashamed of themselves.
“This is more of a pantomime than a fight. It’s purely for money-making purposes but Floyd Mayweather doesn’t need any more money and neither do the casinos in Las Vegas.
“In my opinion, this fight is everything that’s wrong about sport.”
Maloney, who joins the likes of Oscar de la Hoya and Lennox Lewis in slamming the bout, warned that McGregor is out of his depth going up against Mayweather.
“McGregor is a very good fighter in his own sport, but he’s only had a few amateur fights and stepping into a boxing ring is a completely different discipline to what he’s used to and he’s going up against one of the best fighters of all time.
“They are both very arrogant and their press conferences have been a disgrace it’s just not what sport’s about.
“Young people will be tuning into this and will think it’s great. It will draw attention because it is entertainment.
“The UFC fans who have a big following particularly in America will actually believe McGregor can win but I will be surprised if he even lays a glove on Mayweather.”
