Meet The Fastest Growing Fantastically Talented Singer and Songwriter, Sir Dauda
Sir Dauda is a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and performer. He considers himself a vessel of art and music, and intends to inspire knowledge and love through the arts.
He is the last born of the gods, first son of the ministry, high priest in the temple of music and keeper of TheDeepShop. Born in the 80s in the city of Lagos, with parents from mixed Nigerian heritage. He always had an affinity for the arts and performance and often was on stage at school and church events. With influences such as Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Stevie Wonder, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Mos Def (Yasiin Bey), and Nas amongst others, he plays a style of music, which is a blend of poetry, folk and rap lyricism fused with African sounds and rhythms; a style he describes as Jungle Funk.
We were first introduced to the talented artist with his debut single “Sisi Oloja”, which was a fan-favorite in 2012, and he has since been featured in several works such as, “How far?” with Falz, “War Coming” with Eva Alordiah, “Funmi Lowo” with Aramide and other works with artists such as SDC, Loose Kaynon, Blackmagic and Adekunle Gold. Apart from features he has collaborated with several artists in creative writing and creative direction on their projects. His most recent writing effort is “Halleluyah” by Funbi that he co-wrote with the talented singer.
Although he has been on hiatus for a while earning a law degree and being called to bar, with the rare sighting here and there, he is back, better than ever and ready to release some new music with a few covers and we hear a video or two might also be in the works. He is currently working on a project called ‘Elements’ which would be out later in the year.
He explains that the process for this upcoming project has been quite a challenging but interesting journey for him. It has taken him to several geographic locations in Nigeria, allowing him to interact with people across several tribes, getting to know their stories and sharing in their experiences.
It has been a tough process but very rewarding and has helped him evolve into a more seasoned version of himself who is more aware that art is in everyone and everywhere around us.
