Messi Better than Ronaldo – Torres
Cristiano Ronaldo may have scooped up a fifth ballon d’Or Award a fortnight ago to equal his great rival Lionel Messi, but that hasn’t stopped many believing he’s still the second best player on the planet.
Spain striker Fernando Torres is the latest to stoke the fires of football greatest debate by saying he believes Messi is the best player in the world.
The Atletico Madrid striker added that he was sure Messi would have achieved double in his career if it was not for the effort of Ronaldo.
Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo will renew his rivalry with the Barca no 10 when both sides go head-to-head at the Santiago Bernabeu Saturday, and Torres admits that Ronaldo deserves praise for achieving so much in the presence of the Argentine conjurer, Goal writes.
“What Cristiano Ronaldo has done in the time of Messi says a lot about him,” Torres told Radio MARCA.
“If he wasn’t there, then Messi would have achieved double.
“I think that Messi is the best player in the world, although they are different players.”

Messi, who put pen to paper on a mammoth contract extension at the Camp Nou last month, has scored a La Liga-high 14 goals to help unbeaten Barca move six points clear of second-placed Atletico atop the table after 16 games.
European and Spanish champions Madrid are fourth and 11 points adrift with a game in hand – with Ronaldo only managing four league goals so far.
But the Portuguese superstar has found form in recent weeks, scoring the winner as Los Blancos clinched the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.
