Military Competences Of Troops Recipes For Operational Successes – GOC Says As 63 Brigade Celebrates WASA In Warri
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Jamal Abdussalam has declared that dogged professionalism and military competences have proven to be veritable recipes for operational successes in the field. He made this declaration at the Headquarters 63 Brigade and 3 Battalion Combined West African Social Activities (WASA) for the year ended 2024, held at Effurum Barracks Warri, Delta State on 11 January 2025.
The GOC, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event, further said the series of gains recorded by 6 Division against illegal bunkering and economic saboteurs underpins the assertion. This he said, is evident in the current improved oil production and relative peace that permeates the Niger Delta Region (NDR). He maintained that the trajectory will be maintained for improved oil production for the benefits of all Nigerians.
Major General Abdussalam, while commending the Commander 63 Brigade, his officers and men, stressed that WASA was aimed at motivating troops through the unique strength in cultural diversity. He appreciated the presence of other sister services as well as security agencies, which he said sufficiently demonstrated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s command philosophy, which is “To consolidate the transformation of the Nigerian Army towards bequeathing a well-motivated combat-ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment”. He also commended the Commanding Officer, 3 Battalion, both main and rear for the Museum project he commissioned in the Barracks. He added it was highly commendable to have commissioned the project.
Earlier, the Commander 63 Brigade, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, while welcoming guests, thanked the GOC for his uncommon and timely support to the Brigade. He maintained that the Brigade’s remarkable performance and successes is a testament of the Division’s support and backing. Speaking further, he thanked friends and well-wishers of the Brigade for thier continuous support.
Relatedly, the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori commended the role the Military is playing in collaboration with other security agencies in the NDR. As a government, he assured that they shall always encourage peaceful co-existence in the state. He thanked the NA for the sacrifices they are making for peace and security in the NDR and Nigeria in general.
The exciting events, featured colourful and entertaining dances, calisthenics display, tug of war and inspection of local cuisines. Others include, the beating of retreat and lighting of the bonfire to symbolically light up the energy for the new year 2025. The major highpoint was the commissioning of the Museum and presentation of awards to deserving personnel.
