Minister Of Budget and Economic Planning Received OGP Civil Society Organization Stakeholders Pushes For Balance Approach In Accessing Government Performances

The Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu CON, received a courtesy call from the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Civil Society Organization at the Ministry yesterday.

The visit, led by the Non-State Actor Co-chair and Executive Director of Meluibe Empowerment Foundation, Obialunanma Nnaobi- Ayodele, was aimed at highlighting the crucial need for high-level political support for the OGP.

She further appealed for assistance in securing budgetary allocations for the OGP within the supplementary budget.

In response, the Honourable Minister extended a warm welcome to the OGP team, underlining the Ministry’s commitment to engaging with and embracing diverse groups.

Furthermore, Sen. Bagudu highlighted the necessity for a balanced approach in assessing government performance, stressing the importance of not only holding Local and State Governments accountable but also drawing the attention of the global community to ensure meaningful impact.

The Minister advocated for the incorporation of tools within the OGP framework to empower the Ministry to strengthen its voice globally and among citizens.

He did reiterate that the goal is not to seek donations but to strive for fair and sustainable solutions that address the root causes of critical problems.

The Honourable Minister underscored the importance of shifting the discourse from solely critiquing government shortcomings to enriching debates about broader systemic issues, such as equitable access to capital and addressing resource challenges in regions like the Niger Delta.
