NAEME Honours 6 Retired Distinguished Generals With Gala Night and Pulling Out Ceremony

The Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (NAEME) Corps on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June 2026 conducted a Gala Night and Pulling Out Ceremony respectively in honour of 6 retired generals of the Corps. The Gala Night took place at The Ozuomba Mbadiwe Centre Marda Barracks Yaba while the Pulling Out Ceremony held at the 65 Battalion Parade Ground Victoria Island Lagos.

The Commander Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (CCEME) Major General AA Adereti in his welcome remarks at the the Gala Night, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Nigerian Army, and all those who contributed to the successful organization of the event. He assured the rare breeds of generals that the current generation of NAEME officers and men will proudly carry forward the torch of their legacy and will hand it brighter to the future generation.

The Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General AA Adeyinka, in his remarks described the occasion as a historic celebration of distinguished military leaders who had written their names in gold through decades of selfless service, unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership. He remarked that the retired generals made personal sacrifices in defence of the nation and played significant roles in advancing the NAEME Corps and the Nigerian Army. He urged serving personnel to draw inspiration from their exemplary careers by upholding the core values of loyalty, discipline, integrity, courage, selfless service and respect for others. He pleaded that the retirees continually mentor younger officers and contribute their wealth of experience towards the development of the Nigerian Army.

Speaking at the Pulling Out Ceremony, the Reviewing Officer, Major General BU Yahaya (Rtd), described the occasion as a significant milestone in their military journey. He noted that the Pulling Out Ceremony remains one of the most cherished traditions of the Nigerian Army, symbolizing the formal conclusion of active military service after years of commitment, sacrifice and loyalty to the nation.

The retired senior officers include; Major General BU Yahaya, Major General HG Tafida, Major General AU Obiwulu, Brigadier General AK Lawal, Brigadier General AK Onasoga and Brigadier General EB Abore.

Major General Yahaya expressed gratitude to God Almighty for preserving their lives throughout their years of service and thanked the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM) for his unflinching support to the corps. He also commended the CCEME for sustaining the noble tradition of honouring senior officers upon retirement and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful organization of the event. He also paid tribute to their spouses and families for their sacrifices, resilience and unwavering support throughout their years of military service. Addressing serving personnel, he urged them to remain steadfast in their dedication to duty while upholding the core military values of integrity, discipline, professionalism and selfless service. He also encouraged them to embrace innovation and emerging technologies in order to enhance the Corps’ capacity to meet future operational challenges.

The ceremony was attended by serving and retired senior officers of the NAEME Corps, former Commanders Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Corps Commanders, Director Generals and Commandants of Defence and Nigerian Army Institutions, Formation Commanders, captains of industry, as well as families, friends, and well-wishers of the retired generals.

Highlights of the events included Musical interludes, comedy show, live band, spoken words, and cultural troupe display with sumptuous meals and assorted drinks, march-past in slow and quick time, group photographs and the ceremonial pulling-out parade.
