National Assembly House Committee Members On Army Inspect Ongoing Nigerian Army Projects In 2 Division

The Team Leader and Chairman, National Assembly House Committee on Army, Honourable Abdullahi Mamudu, has said that the Nigerian Army (NA), remains the only federal government organization which executes contracts effectively with minimal funds. He made the assertion while remarking on the briefs delivered during the team’s oversight visit of 2 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), on Wednesday 8 May 2024, to inspect ongoing NA projects.

The Team was adequately briefed by the Commander, 42 Engineer Brigade, Brigadier General SA Adeyemo, on NA land encroachment and other ongoing projects in Iseyin and Shaki areas of Oyo State. Subsequently, the Commander, Engineer Construction Command, Brigadier General A Abdulkarim, also gave a brief on ongoing projects in Ede, Osun State, which include; the proposed Special Forces Battalion, accommodations for Officers and Soldiers as well as rehabilitation of structures affected by wind within the Barracks.

The Team Leader, who was ably represented by Honourable Salman Idris, reiterated that NA Engineers, are the masters of direct labour. Accordingly, he commended the NA for its relentless efforts towards ensuring high standards of performance and delivery in all awarded direct labour projects, while expressing satisfaction with the high levels and standard of works currently ongoing at the different locations.

Honourable Idris also commented on the issue of encroachment into NA lands, which was highlighted during the briefs. He encouraged the NA to ensure that all its lands are officially registered under relevant government agencies with appropriate issue of authentic Certificate of Occupancy ( C of O). He noted that, considering the vast nature of NA lands, civilians may be tempted to encroach on them with the assumption that they may lack authentic documents. However, such encroachments, he said, could be minimised or completely stamped out; hence the need to have government approved documents. Additionally, the Team Leader, said that planting of trees on the boundaries of NA lands could serve as temporary means of securing them, thereby denying land grabbers free access.

Earlier in his remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division NA, Major General OG Onubogu, represented by the Chief of Staff 2 Division, Brigadier General BMG Martins, appreciated the selfless sacrifices and commitments of the Team Leader and other Team members towards nation building. He further assured the law makers, that 2 Division NA, will sustain its long standing tradition of maintaining good standards and prompt delivery of all awarded projects within its AOR.

The event also had in attendance, the Director Liaison, National Assembly, Major General S Nicodemus, all Commanders and Principal Staff Officers of 2 Division. Presentation of souvenirs and group photograph climaxed the event.
