National Commission For Persons with Disabilities, NEMA Join Forces to Distribute Relief Items to Persons with Disabilities Affected by Disasters

In a collaborative effort to provide vital support to individuals impacted by disasters, the National Commission For Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and the National National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) joined forces to distribute relief items to those in need. The event, held at Mashood Abiola National Stadium, underscored the commitment of both agencies to prioritize the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities in disaster response efforts.

The distribution initiative was prompted by a plea made by the Executive Secretary of NCPWD following a devastating fire incident in Karamajiji, Abuja. Recognizing the urgent need for support, NEMA under the leadership of Zubaida Umar responded to the call for aid, partnering with NCPWD to provide assistance to those affected.

During the event, a diverse range of relief items was distributed to beneficiaries, including:

  • 1,984 bags of rice
  • 183 foam mattresses
  • 183 pieces of wax print
  • 183 blankets
  • 183 pieces of guinea brocade
  • 183 plastic buckets
  • Plastic cups, plates, and spoons
  • Children’s, women’s, and men’s clothing

These essential provisions aim to address the immediate needs of individuals and families impacted by the disasters, offering comfort and support as they work towards recovery and rebuilding.

The collaborative efforts of agencies played a crucial role in ensuring that assistance reached those who needed it most.

In a symbolic gesture, a beneficiary received support from Director-General Haj. Zubaida Umar and Executive Secretary Mr James David Lalu, representing the broader effort to provide assistance to individuals impacted by disasters. This act of solidarity underscores the commitment to inclusivity and compassion in relief efforts.

As the relief items are distributed, it is evident that collaboration and empathy are key in addressing the needs of vulnerable communities, particularly persons with disabilities. NCPWD and NEMA remain steadfast in our commitment to serving and supporting those in need, and together, we will exemplify the spirit of unity and compassion needed to build resilient communities and ensure that no one is left behind in times of crisis.
