Naval Chief Lauds NOWA Achievements, Performs Groundbreaking For NOWA Events Centre

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo has praised the leadership of NOWA on various welfare projects, which are enduring legacies, and have endeared the leadership of the Association to well-meaning and good spirited individuals across Nigeria, especially as a key contributor to national development.

Naval Chief gave this commendation on Thursday at the groundbreaking ceremony of Naval Officers’ Wives Association Events Centre at Admiralty Estate, Navy Town, Asokoro Abuja.

In his remarks, Vice Admiral Gambo who was delighted to preside over the epoch-making ceremony thanked Naval Officers’ Wives Association for ongoing construction of a 200-bed capacity Naval Officers’ Wives Association Women and Children Green Smart Hospital that commenced in June 2022 and for making significant impact on the wellbeing of the Service and the wider society across the Country. 

He said the 1.9 hectares of land to initiate the construction of Naval Officers’ Wives Association Events Centre at the Admiralty Estate, Asokoro as direct interventions in support of the Navy’s welfare objectives. 

Thus, our congregation here is to kick-start the first step of several other activities that would actualize the dream of having a state-of-the art Events Centre in a comfortable and secure environment. 

“I am convinced that construction of this Centre will no doubt, create enabling socio-cultural environment that will enhance morale of personnel and their families as well as the civilian population that will utilize the facility” he noted.

Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo specifically appreciate NOWA’s laudable achievements of providing quality education and vocational training, embarking on charitable activities, offering economic and empowerment programmes for women, orphans and children, including promoting love and harmony among wives of naval officers and their families. 

He said these efforts could have been made in no better time than now, when family sustainability and cohesion are needed to confront myriad of security challenges facing the nation. 

“Undoubtedly, these achievements have impacted positively, as they have translated to courage needed to support our fighting troops, towards improved national security”, he said.
