Nigeria Police Partners CLEEN, Trains PPROs On Behavioural Change Communication, Prevention Of Gender-Based Violence

As part of the active efforts of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, to engender behavioural change in the Force, the Nigeria Police in collaboration with CLEEN Foundation has launched a specialized capacity-building workshop for Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) focused on Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) and Preventive Strategies Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The northern cohort of the 3-day training, holding in Kaduna from Tuesday 24th June, 2025, aims to equip PPROs with strategic communication skills to enhance public trust and improve police response to gender-based issues.

In his opening remarks, the Acting Executive Director of CLEEN Foundation, Mr. Peter Maduoma, highlighted the organization’s longstanding commitment to public safety, justice sector reform, and inclusive policing. He also emphasized their support for security institutions with research-based interventions and training that promote human rights, accountability, and professional conduct.

The Inspector-General of Police, represented by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who joined the opening ceremony virtually, urged the officers comprising all Command PPROs from the northern part of the country, to approach the training with utmost seriousness. He noted that the training is critical to improving public engagement, build trust, and address the scourge of gender-based violence in the country. He commended CLEEN Foundation for the timely initiative and encouraged the PPROs to make the most of it.

The workshop featured expert-led sessions on SBCC principles, gender-sensitive policing, community engagement, and tailored communication strategies to prevent violence and foster safer communities.
