Nigerian Air Force Boosts Airpower Sustainment Capacity Through AFCOL Logistics Training Initiative
In furtherance of its commitment to strengthening operational sustainment capabilities, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has inaugurated trainees for Basic Catering Course 6/2026 at the Nigerian Air Force College of Logistics (AFCOL) annex in Kaduna. The six-month programme, comprising 19 airmen and airwomen, is designed to equip participants with essential culinary, hygiene, and food management competencies critical to sustaining personnel in diverse operational environments. As a premier logistics training institution, AFCOL continues to play a pivotal role in developing mission-support capabilities that underpin effective airpower delivery, reinforcing the NAF’s commitment to excellence in both combat and support functions.
Delivering the inaugural address on behalf of the Commandant, Air Vice Marshal FSC Uwakara, the Dean of the School of Works and Services, Air Commodore YM Abdullahi, charged the trainees to maximise the opportunity to acquire contemporary skills in catering and hospitality management. He emphasised that quality nutrition and efficient service delivery are integral to troop morale, health, and overall combat readiness, noting that the professionalism of catering personnel directly influences operational effectiveness. He further highlighted that the training is structured to instil discipline, precision, and adherence to global best practices required in modern military logistics support.
The Commandant also underscored the strategic importance of the School of Catering and Hospitality Services within AFCOL, describing it as a vital contributor to the broader logistics architecture of the NAF. He acknowledged the unwavering support of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, whose commitment to standardised training and mission-focused capability development continues to drive capacity building across the Service. The recent restructuring that integrated the School into AFCOL as its fourth faculty reflects a forward-looking approach to specialised logistics training, fostering synergy among support disciplines and strengthening the NAF’s ability to project sustainable and effective airpower.
