Nigerian Air Force Immortalizes A Fallen Hero

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has immortalized another of its fallen heroes by naming a newly completed and furnished block of 10 x single room officers’ transit accommodation at NAF Base Kaduna after him. The naming of the new building after late Flight Lieutenant John Ayonote Adams, who was killed during Operation ZAMAN LAFIYA in the North East, was in keeping with NAF’s culture of immortalizing its fallen heroes. The Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Air Training Command (ATC), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Mohammed Idris, represented the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, as the Guest of Honour at the commissioning ceremony, which held on 25 June 2018.

During the commissioning ceremony, AVM Idris said the new block of flats was another milestone in the current NAF leadership’s quest to ensure that all its personnel live in befitting accommodation that would better prepare them to respond to various national security imperatives. AVM Idris also seized the opportunity to appreciate the commitment of NAF Headquarters to speedily completing various ongoing developmental projects at NAF Base Kaduna. The projects under execution, according to the AOC ATC, included classrooms for the National Open University Study Centre, perimeter fencing of the Base, the new Headquarters Building for ATC as well as residential accommodation for Principal Staff Officers of the Command. Speaking further, the AOC announced that approval had been given for the construction of a new block of 30 x one bedroom airmen transit accommodation and Air Warrant Officer (AWO) building, among others. The AOC ATC therefore thanked the CAS for his continued support and pledged the Command’s resolve to continue to provide requisite aircrew training for the NAF to effectively execute its mandate of securing Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

In his welcome address, the Commander 453 Base Services Group Kaduna, Air Commodore Ismaila Yahaya, expressed delight while noting that the new residential building would go a long way in reducing accommodation-related challenges in the Base. He then urged the occupants of the new self-contained and fully furnished flats to reciprocate the kind gesture of the current NAF leadership by remaining dedicated to the accomplishment of NAF’s constitutional roles. The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of keys to beneficiaries of the flats by the Guest of Honour.
