Nigerian Air Force Information Officers To Leverage Strategic Communication For Operational Success
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced its 2026 Directorate of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) Annual Media Workshop and Meeting with Information Officers at Headquarters NAF, Abuja. Declaring the two-day workshop open, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal AY Abdullahi, described the theme, “Enhancing Strategic Media Operations of NAF Public Relations and Information Personnel Through Capacity Building in Crisis Management Skills,” as timely, stressing the need for Information Officers to strengthen their capacity to operate effectively in an increasingly complex and contested information environment.
Air Marshal Aneke charged NAF Information Officers to recognise strategic communication as an operational capability, noting that “effective public communication has moved beyond being merely supportive to becoming an operational necessity that contributes directly to mission success.” He urged them to ensure that every communication reflects accuracy, professionalism, integrity and timeliness, while strengthening public understanding, institutional credibility and confidence in the Service. He further emphasised the need to communicate operational successes purposefully and responsibly to both internal and external audiences.
The workshop featured a presentation by the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Alhaji Baba Ndache, and brought together former NAF spokespersons, Branch Chiefs, serving spokespersons, Information Officers, resource persons and media professionals. The participation of former spokespersons, including Air Commodore Yusuf Anas (Retired), Air Commodore Ozomina (Retired), Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya (Retired) and Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola (Retired), provided a valuable platform for institutional knowledge transfer and professional exchange, reinforcing DOPRI’s commitment to building a credible, coordinated and strategically aligned communication architecture capable of supporting NAF operational effectiveness and national security objectives.
