Nigerian Air Force Launches Maiden Air Defence Control Course To Strengthen Nigeria’s Airspace Security
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has inaugurated the Maiden Initial Air Defence Control (IADC) Course 1/2026, a landmark initiative that reinforces the Chief of the Air Staff’s commitment to standardised training, professional excellence and the development of a highly skilled, mission-ready force. The four-week programme, with 10 pioneer officers, marks a significant step in strengthening the Service’s air defence capability and enhancing Nigeria’s national airspace security.
Declaring the course open, the Commandant, Air Traffic Services Training Centre, Air Vice Marshal Nurudeen Babatunde Folaji, described the programme as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s air defence architecture. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to producing competent Air Defence Controllers capable of effectively managing airborne threats in line with Nigerian Air Force Standard Operating Procedures. He also emphasised the importance of strong civil-military coordination in safeguarding the nation’s airspace and urged participants to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and operational excellence.
Throughout the programme, participants will undergo advanced theoretical and practical training designed to develop the technical expertise and operational competence required for modern air defence operations. The initiative underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to innovation, operational readiness and the protection of Nigeria’s sovereign airspace while enhancing its ability to deliver decisive air power in support of national security.
