Nigerian Air Force Reaffirms Commitment To Excellence and Joint Operational Synergy

The graduation ceremony of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 9/2025, held on 10 October 2025 in Abuja. It celebrated the resilience, discipline, and intellectual achievements of senior military officers who successfully completed the intensive strategic leadership programme. The course designed to strengthen operational leadership, foster strategic thinking, and enhance joint planning capabilities among officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, featured 80 participants this year. This included two officers each from the Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as well as nine international officers from six African countries—reflecting the College’s growing role in promoting regional cooperation and professional military education.

Among the graduating officers, Wing Commander AM Onalaja of the NAF distinguished himself by emerging as the second-best overall student in merit and received the Commandant’s Paper Award —a remarkable achievement that underscores the Service’s enduring commitment to excellence, professionalism, and capacity development. Representing the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, the Air Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Bakari, described the accomplishment as a reflection of the NAF’s vision to nurture competent leaders capable of contributing effectively to joint operations.

In his message, the CAS reiterates that the complexity of Nigeria’s security challenges demands stronger inter-agency cooperation and unity of effort among the Armed Forces. “The importance of jointness in addressing contemporary security threats cannot be overemphasized. It is only through collective effort that we can truly secure our nation,” he affirmed. The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who was the Special Guest of Honour, commended the officers for their outstanding performance and urged them to remain innovative and strategic in confronting evolving security realities. The event once again highlighted the NAF’s unwavering pursuit of excellence, synergy, and professionalism in advancing national security and stability.
