Nigerian Air Force Strengthens Operational Readiness Through Specialised Technical Training
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reinforced its commitment to operational readiness through specialised technical training designed to enhance personnel proficiency, aircraft serviceability and mission effectiveness. This was highlighted on 29 October 2026, as engineering and armament technicians of the 403 Flying Training School (403 FTS), Kano, graduated from various courses aimed at strengthening their maintenance capabilities on the L-39ZA aircraft.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour, the Air Officer Commanding, Air Training Command, Air Vice Marshal EP Efanga, commended the quality of the programmes, noting that developing in-house technical capacity is essential to sustaining a competent and mission-ready workforce. He stated that the initiative aligns with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, DFS, particularly the Key Driver of “Standardised Training and Mission-Focused Capability Development,” which emphasises standardisation, mentorship and practical instruction. The courses covered Engine Ground Run, Aircraft Inspection, Conservation and Deconservation, Aircraft Battery Inspection, and Parachute Packing.
Earlier, the Commander 403 FTS, Group Captain U Ihediwa, described the training as a strategic investment in technical competence and safe aircraft operations. The AOC congratulated the graduates and urged them to apply their newly acquired skills to improving maintenance standards and aircraft serviceability. The initiative underscores the NAF’s recognition that effective airpower depends not only on available aircraft but also on skilled personnel capable of sustaining them. By continually developing its technical workforce, the Service is strengthening mission assurance and the reliability of its operational capabilities in support of national security.
