Participants of Air Force War College Course 12/2026 have concluded a 2-day operational study tour to the Headquarters of Joint Task Force North-East Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, aimed at deepening strategic understanding of contemporary airpower employment in joint military operations. Conducted from 14 to 15 May 2026 under the theme, “Assessing Nigerian Air Force Airpower Capabilities for Effectiveness in Joint Operations,” the tour exposed participants to the realities of ongoing Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations in the North-East Theatre. On arrival at Headquarters Theatre Command, the participants were received by the Theatre Commander, Major General AE Abubakar, who described the visit as timely and strategically significant in preparing future military leaders for the complexities of modern warfare. He emphasized that the operational successes being recorded within the theatre were products of sustained joint efforts, effective synergy among the land, maritime and air components, as well as close collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders.

During the engagement, participants received extensive operational briefings covering land, maritime and air operations within the theatre, with emphasis on interoperability, intelligence sharing and coordinated operational planning in addressing contemporary security challenges. The presentations highlighted the critical role of the Nigerian Air Force in providing Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance support, close air support, rapid mobility, casualty evacuation and other air operations in support of ongoing joint efforts within the North-East Theatre. The interactive sessions with operational commanders and subject matter experts further provided participants with valuable firsthand insight into the evolving dynamics of asymmetric warfare and the application of airpower in joint operations. Speaking during the visit, the Commandant of the Air Force War College, Air Vice Marshal GA Mbaka, commended the professionalism, resilience and dedication of troops of Operation HADIN KAI, noting that the operational gains recorded within the theatre reflected the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria towards restoring lasting peace, security and stability in the region.

On the second day of the tour, participants visited Nigerian Air Force Base Maiduguri where they interacted with pilots, engineers and operational teams of the Air Component Operation HADIN KAI. The participants were conducted round key operational facilities and exposed to frontline combat aircraft, utility helicopters, surveillance platforms and remotely piloted air systems currently supporting operations within the theatre. The visit provided participants with practical understanding of the operational capabilities and strategic relevance of these platforms in intelligence gathering, air support missions, troop mobility and battlefield coordination. The engagement further reinforced confidence in the Nigerian Air Force’s sustained commitment towards supporting ongoing counter-insurgency operations and enhancing joint operational effectiveness in the North-East Theatre.
