Nigerian Army Finance Corps Celebrates WASA 2025, As COAS Promises Enhanced Operational Effectiveness Nationwide

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, has assured that the Nigerian Army will witness enhanced operational effectiveness in countering crimes and other security threats across the country in 2026. He gave the assurance on Saturday, 7 February 2026, during the Nigerian Army Finance Corps (NAFC) West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025, held at the Headquarters Command Finance Office Football Field, Arakan Cantonment, Apapa, Lagos.

The COAS, represented by the Commander Corps of Signals, Major General MT Abdullahi, stated that the Nigerian Army is expected to take delivery of additional helicopters, unmanned aerial systems, and other critical combat enablers in 2026 to further strengthen operational effectiveness nationwide. This strategic enhancement is anchored on his Command Philosophy, aimed at transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready, and resilient force.

The Chief of Army Staff commended the Nigerian Army Finance Corps for its pivotal role in shaping and sustaining the financial architecture of the Nigerian Army, despite prevailing resource constraints. He also appreciated officers, soldiers, wives, and families for their unwavering support and resilience.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of Accounts and Budget(Army) Major General TT Siddick described WASA as a thanksgiving and sociocultural event, rating the Corps’ performance as 99.9 per cent successful. He highlighted the Corps’ achievements, including the payment of salaries, allowances, and operational allowances for frontline troops.

The event featured cultural performances, comedy acts, tug-of-war, and the presentation of Best Soldier Awards. The event was well attended by Senior officers, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and other government functionaries.
