
Nigerian Army Holds Officers’ Training Week To Strengthen Capacity For Contemporary Security Challenges
The Headquarters 6 Division Nigerian Army conducted its annual Officers’ Training Week 2025, themed “Developing the Capacity of Officers to Meet Contemporary Challenges in a Joint Environment.” The event took place on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Cobra Officers’ Mess, 6 Battalion, Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom State, gathering officers from across the Division for professional development.
While delivering his remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division/ Land Component Commander(LCC) Joint Task Force(JTF) South South(SS) Operation DELTA SAFE(OPDS) Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah stated that the training week represents his commitment and that of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to enhancing the operational efficiency and professionalism of officers of 6 Division and the Nigerian Army( NA) at large.
The GOC/LCC emphasized the importance of the training week for enhancing operational efficiency and professionalism within the Nigerian Army. He stated that the initiative aligns with his mission statement which is “To maintain the highest level of operational efficiency in 6 Division by promoting sound administration, effective training, discipline, and professionalism within a joint environment”. Participants were encouraged to engage actively, share insights, and learn from one another.
In his welcome address, the Commander 2 Brigade and Sector 4 JTF SS OPDS, Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi, acknowledged the GOC/LCC’s commitment to training and growth. He reiterated that the Training Week aims to strengthen the capacity of officers to address the evolving security landscape, particularly in joint and inter-agency operations. He urged participants to take advantage of networking opportunities during the week.
The training week included a series of lectures, interactive sessions, and experience-sharing led by experienced military officers, security experts, and subject-matter professionals.
Key highlights of the event included a group photograph and the presentation of souvenirs to the Resource Persons, Discussants, and Moderators in recognition of their contributions to the training’s success.
