Nigerian Celebrities Call out Tyrese Gibson’s Ignorance On Nigeria
Africa is not a country, but this simple truth continues to elude so many people in the West, the most recent being American singer, Tyrese Gibson.
Yesterday, the American singer shared a screenshot of the photo from Mark Zuckerberg’s visit in Nigeria. Though, he had some nice things to say, the singer failed to mention that the FB boss was in Nigeria, instead he called it ‘Africa’.
He said:
“Some people think we’re human beings having a spiritual experience it’s the other way around – were spiritual beings having a human experience – Mark Zuckerberg randomly popped up in Africa and he’s there jogging, hanging out and connected with our people – he looks so happy and I’m sure they’re doing a lot for his spirit and life – Sometimes you just have to run away to far places and find your balance……….. I’ve seen a few pics and I just love this so much…… Mark I felt the same the people of Africa are just amazing people and souls -”
Numerous articles have been written to educate folks that Africa is really a continent but each time, the expanse of land with its 54 countries and islands, is melted into one exotic pot and mentioned as though it is simply a country.
And so, when Tyrese painted Africa as a country, Nigerians, including actress Chioma Akpotha and celebrity designer and wedding planner, Funke Bucknor, called him out.
