
Nigerian Navy Critical To Security Architecture – Cross River Governor
The Cross River State Government has reiterated its dedication to boosting maritime security by providing increased support to the Nigerian Navy, with a particular focus on enhancing the operational efficiency of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) VICTORY. This pledge was made by the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, during his meeting with the Commander of NNS VICTORY, Commodore Shuaib Ahmed, at the Governor’s Office. The Governor underscored the strategic importance of NNS VICTORY in securing the eastern maritime corridor and inland waterways, safeguarding critical national assets, and sustaining peace across the state. He further pledged enhanced logistical and institutional support to expand its presence and operational reach.
Commodore Ahmed, expressed appreciation for the state government’s continued backing and highlighted the need for sustained collaboration to strengthen operational capacity further. There were discussions on establishing Naval Outpost Mfun as a force multiplier to improve surveillance and rapid-response capabilities in the area. The Commander emphasised that strengthened state-level support remains critical to consolidating maritime security gains in Cross River State.
