

Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard Holds Stakeholders Forum For Flood Disaster Management and Maritime Safety & Security
Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard led by Commodore T Senibo, held a Stakeholders Forum focused on Flood Disaster Management and Maritime Safety & Security. The purpose of the Forum was to assemble key players from major sectors including the disaster response, waterway safety, maritime security, and also leveraging synergy amongst all stakeholders towards proffering sustainable strategies for tackling the increasing challenges of flood disaster management and ensuring the safety and security of waterways.
The Special Guest of Honour (SGOH) for the event was the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Dr Mrs. Folashe Arike Ayaode. Also in attendance was the Commander Command Naval Drafting, Commodore K Tanimu, Honourable Commissioners for Water Resources and Environment, Representatives of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Lokoja, Officials from Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the Deputy Commissioner of Police from the Marine Police, NIWA, Representatives from Nigeria Customs Marine and the Kogi State Security Adviser.
In his remarks, the Commander NNS LUGARD welcomed all participants and emphasised the critical need for collective action in planning and coordinating flood disaster management as well as ensuring waterway safety and security in Kogi State.
The SGOH thanked the Nigerian Navy for the laudable initiative leading to the forum and emphasised need for enforcement of waterway safety protocols in the region.
