Youths of Ogoni Community, Rivers State, has called off their protest on the Eleme-Onne East-West road, following an appeal by the Federal Government to enable construction companies to begin work on the road.
Intelligence gathered that the demonstration was called off on Sunday evening after a thanksgiving service at the protest ground which several dignitaries including Federal and State Lawmakers were in attendance.
In the last week, youths in the community have been protesting the deplorable situation of the Eleme-Onne East-West road, calling on the Federal Government to come to their aid.
Residents had shut the Refinery junction road and other alternative routes around Onne over several fatalities recorded from commuting the road. Reports indicate that a teenager was killed by a container-laden truck on one of the bad spots on the road last week.
As of the time of filing this report, commuters and motorists have been plying the road unabated.
