One Dead, 5 Injured as Luxury Bus Rams Into Houses, Vehicles in Awka

A freak accident involving an out-of-control bus has left residents shaken in Awka, the Anambra State capital .

According to our reporter, the tragic accident occured yesterday  when the driver of a luxury bus with plate number Anambra HAL 269 YG, lost control along the popular Zik Avenue, and rammed into houses and vehicles. It was stopped by an electric pole, after 800metres of rage.

At least one person- a woman, was killed, while five other people were critically injured.

Newsmen gathered that the Federal Road Safety Corps quickly arrived the scene which had caused massive gridlock, and cut access to the road. Zik road reportedly is the major road to the government offices and the Awka Main Market.

Narrating how he survived the crash, Gift Odoh, a driver whose shuttle bus was smashed beyond repair, said,  “I am still in shock. I still cannot believe that I am still alive seeing this vehicle in this condition. What it means is that God is always with me.”

Vanguard adds that other vehicles destroyed in the carnage include a green-coloured Mercedes Benz 190, with number plate Enugu BH 821 ENU, and many tricycles.
