One Killed as Amotekun Rescues Cement Dealer from Kidnappers in Ondo

Men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed ‘Amotekun Corps’ yesterday  rescued a popular cement dealer in Ogun waterside, Folorunsho Sakirudeen from the den of kidnappers.

The state Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, while parading  the suspects in Akure the State capital, explained that “Sakirudeen was kidnapped on Wednesday around 8pm by three-man gang  at Antonio junction in Ogun waterside.

“He was moved from the spot to Ajebamidele in Ondo state, where they were tracked by Amotekun operatives”.

Adeleye noted that “one  of the kidnappers, identified as Kunle was killed in a gun duel, while Funmi Adenuoye escaped through the bush”.

He said: “They   were able to Kidnap the victim, bundle him into his Highlander vehicle and drove recklessly out of Ogun State to Ondo State. Our credible intelligence network were informed, and  at that point, we didn’t know what was inside the vehicle but the way he was driving presupposes that there were problems. So, we laid manhunt for them and  we were able to apprehend the team. They engaged our men in a shoot-out but we were able to secure the release of Alhaji Sakirudeen and recover his vehicle.

“We arrested Tayo Ibrahim,  who narrated the story of how they negotiated with the victim to a ransom of N10 million, while on the road.

“Thereafter, they contacted his family to bring a negotiated amount of N2 million to a particular point in the riverine area of Ondo State”.

The Amotekun Commander explained that the third member of the gang, Tayo Ibrahim,  was one of the six suspects arrested by Amotekun corps.

“The only one member of our crew that was wounded is receiving medical attention while they lost one of their members in the shootout”.

He said: “ We also arrested another syndicate that specializes in stealing of motorcycles from Ondo State and selling it to buyers from Lagos State. These motorcycles were stolen “from  different part of the state and taken to Ore, in Odigbo Local Government.

They include Netofo Idowo, Saka Lateef and  Anjorin Gbemile”.

Adeleye added that “ We also arrested three men at Ikare Junction in Owo and upon interrogation, we found out that their major duty is to provide basic necessities for victims of Kidnap and the kidnappers in the forest”.

Narrating his ordeal, the  58-year-old Folorunso Sakirudeen said the alleged kidnappers bundled him drove for several miles while negotiating his ransom.
