Osinbajo Meets Niger Delta Governors, Service Chiefs in Aso Rock

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is presently in a closed door meeting with the service chiefs and some governors from the Niger Delta region.

The Nation reports that key issues to be discussed are the renewed bombing of oil and power installations in the region, and the recent threat by some aggrieved militants to deploy missiles at targeted locations in Abuja, Lagos and Kaduna States.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday met behind closed doors with service chiefs and some governors from Niger Delta.

Besides the bombing of oil and power installations, some aggrieved militants have threatened to deploy missiles at targeted locations in Abuja, Lagos and Kaduna States.

Osinbajo held the meeting in the Vice-President’s office wing of the Conference Hall in the State House.

The governors in attendance were that of Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Ondo, Edo and Abia States.

Also at the meeting are the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru.

The meeting is still in progress at the time of filing this report.

Osinbajo, who last week visited the Niger Delta to flag-off the cleanup of Ogoniland following decades of oil spillage, is meeting with the major stakeholders at the Vice-President’s office wing of the Conference Hall in the State House.

Present at the meeting are governors of Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Ondo, Edo and Abia States, as well as the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu – who hails from the region – and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru.

Osinbajo assumed leadership of the country on Monday after President Muhammad Buhari took a 10-day leave to the United Kingdom for medical reasons.
