PDP Elders Threaten ‘War’ As APC Refuses to Join Issues with Gov Wike over 2019 Victory Claims

National secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday stated that the ruling party has chosen not to join issues with Rivers state governor, Mr Nyesom Wike over his recent claim that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would takeover the federal government in 2019.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the APC however described Governor Wike’s claims as “idle postulations” and a mere ploy to divert attention from the series of allegedly politically-motivated killings in Rivers state.

A portion of the statement said, “The spate of killings in Rivers State has now assumed genocidal dimensions with horrendous killing and maiming of residents and security personnel almost on a daily basis.

“On Monday, five mobile policemen, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Nasiru Halidu, were ambushed and killed at Okobe in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.

“On Tuesday, five persons were killed and scores injured in attacks in different parts of the state. The state High Court premises in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, also came under attack.”

According to the APC scribe, rather than joining issues with Nyesom Wike’s idle 2019 postulations, the APC-led administration will rather concentrate on ongoing efforts to deliver all-inclusive development in the country.

Meanwhile, some chieftains of the PDP will meet in Abuja today, to protest Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s chairmanship bid.

According to The Nation, former Niger state governor, Mr Babangida Aliyu, former information minister Prof Jerry Gana, former PDP national secretary and Transport minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, and former national deputy chairman, Chief Olabode George are expected to be at the meeting.

The leaders have criticised Sheriff for proposing a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) for Gombe State, contrary to the tradition in the party that the NEC meeting should hold in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). They have also threatened to hold a parallel congress if Sheriff insists on his plan.
