Pharmaceutical Company Workers Arrested for Stealing Drugs Worth N56 Million

Three workers of Peakins Pharmaceutical Company Limited in Lagos have been arrested for allegedly stealing drugs estimated at N56 million from their company.

According to PUNCH, the owner of the company had caught one of the workers with a carton of drugs valued at N400,000 as he attempted to take it out of the company’s warehouse in Lekki, Lagos.

After he was caught, it was then discovered that he and his accomplices had stolen 102 cartons of LORNAT DS tablets, valued at N39.7m; 200 cartons of FUNBACT ‘A’ valued at about N16m; and five cartons of P-ALAXIN tablets valued at N200,000, totalling about N55,980,000.

During investigation, the police also found out that two estate security guards, where the company is located, had assisted the perpetrators. They were also arrested.

The case was subsequently transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the police command through a petition to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Abdulmajid Ali.

A superintendent of Police stated that the suspects had been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on two counts of conspiracy and stealing. They were however granted bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties each in like sum.

Addressing the case, the AIG of Police, Abdulmajid Ali implored industrialists, businessmen and women to carry out security checks on intending employees.
