Police Threaten to Arrest Senator Danjuma Goje Over Murder Implicating Document

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Thursday threatened to arrest Senator Danjuma Goje if he fails to appear before the special investigation panel set up to probe certain documents retrieved from his house.

The lawmaker who represents the Gombe-Central senatorial district has thus far shunned the invitation of the police since the raid on his house on April 20.

Senator Goje had earlier in the week claimed that the police took away the 2017 budget documents from his house. He added that the police action would cause a delay in the passage of the budget.

On Thursday, the senate and the presidency confirmed that the police had complied with an ultimatum issued by the senate that items taken from Goje’s residence be returned.

The police has however maintained that the senator must appear before its panel over the documents retrieved in his residence, one of them said to have implicated a former Kano state governor, Ibrahim Shekarau of planning the assassination of a political opponent.

Police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said: “He (Senator Danjuma Goje) must appear before the investigation team to explain circumstances surrounding how he got some of the documents with us.

“The Senator promised to come last week Friday but he did not. So, I am using this opportunity to call on him to appear before the investigation panel because investigation is still ongoing on the recovery that were made in his house.”

When asked if the senator would be arrested if he refused to honour invitation by the police, Moshood said: “Yes he will be arrested because no one is above arrest and we will definitely do so and it is important for him to know that on time and appear before the team.

Concerning the search warrant use for the raid, the Force spokesman said: “The search was not aimed at the 2017 Budget and I must add that no budget document was sighted or removed.

“No single document relating to the 2017 Budget and mind you, the budget has been with them for months now. So, it will be wrong for anybody to come up and say because police conducted a search, the passage of the budget will be affected.”

He added: “The laptop we took also has some incriminating item which we are investigating because all we removed were removed for investigation.”

He stressed that the laptop had no information about the 2017 budget. The Nation reports that Moshood also promised to make the video clips of the search public.
