Policeman dismissed for alleged murder at Lagos pub

The Police Inspector alleged to have murdered one Jelili Bakare at a nightclub in Lagos has been dismissed, the Command said on Sunday evening.

Inspector Jonathan Kampani with force number 278055, who was attached to Mounted Troop on Marxh 18, opened fire on Bakare during a disagreement at Quinox Lounge, Sangotedo.

The killer cop was said to have fled the scene after shooting the victim but was eventually apprehended by policemen in Sangotedo.

Kampani, according to a statement by spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution following a legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered for the arrest and immediately orderly room trial of the inspector after the incident.

“He also led a team of senior officers in the command to pay a condolence visit to the family of the deceased at Chief Bakare’s House, Ajiranland, Eti-Osa Local Government of Lagos State, on Saturday, March 27, where he promised that justice will be done in the matter.

“The Commissioner of Police therefore urged the general public, especially the family members of the deceased, Jelili Bakare, to be patient and have trust in the police and the judiciary as the matter will be given necessary attention and commitment it requires.

“The police boss reiterated his zero tolerance for professional misconducts and inappropriate behaviours among police personnel in the state,” Adejobi said.
