Presidency Buhari Declares For 2019 Re-election

President Muhamamdu Buhari has officially declared his intention to seek a second term in 2019.

President Muhammadu Buhari, APC National Chairman Chief John Odigie Oyegun, Speaker Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, APC National Secretary Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, APC National Women Leader, Hajiya Halima Tijjani and APC Deputy National Chairman North, Senator Shuaibu Lawal during the Party NEC Meeting held in Abuja.

Buhari made the declaration during the National Executive Committee meeting of the Al Progressives in Abuja Monday.

This follows months of uncertainty over the coming general elections with sections of the country demanding that the president step down amid the myriad of problems bedevilling the country.

Buhari until now had remained mum over his ambitions, but gave a hint when he bowed to pressure within the APC and cancelled the tenure elongation for party officials.

His decision to run is also in defiance of the call of two former heads of state – Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babngida – who in open letters called for frssh faces in 2019 citing the obvious failure of this administration.

Buhari is scheduled to be in the UK later today where he’ll meet Prime Minister Theresa May and other influential British and Nigerian residents in the UK.
