American President Barack Obama on Thursday endorsed Democratic Party presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton to replace him at the White House next year.

Hillary Clinton on Wednesday emerged the first woman to secure the presidential nomination of a major party in the United States after edging off major challenger, Senator Bernie Sanders.

Obama held a one-hour meeting with the Vermont senator on Thursday at the Oval Office in the White House following which he announced his endorsement of Clinton.

Senator Sanders in his speech after the meeting stated that he was ready to work with Clinton in the nearest future to ensure victory over Republican Party candidate, Donald Trump, the business mogul who has taken the political scene by storm.

Sanders is expected to officially bow out of the presidential race after the last round of primaries next Wednesday in Washington DC.
