President NAOWA Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu Leads Extensive Humanitarian, Educational and Welfare Outreach Initiative In Port Harcourt

As part of activities commemorating the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026, President Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu on Saturday 4 July 2026, led an expansive humanitarian and welfare outreach initiative across military formations and NAOWA institutions in Port Harcourt Rivers State, this reaffirms the Association’s long standing commitment to the wellbeing of military personnel, their families and wives of fallen heroes in all the military communities across the country.

The President NAOWA was accompanied on this auspicious occasion by the special guest, Wing Commander Martha Lumba Nambahu, wife of the Commander of the Namibian Army, Major General Aktofel Ndengu Nambahu and members of her entourage during the series of engagements that mark the occasion. She was warmly received with a colourful and enthusiastic welcome from members of the military community, pupils, students and well-wishers, who turned out in large numbers and entertained the visitors with captivating cultural displays which all reflects Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

The first phase of the visit featured an inspection tour of the NAOWA Nursery and Primary School and NAOWA College, Port Harcourt where Dr Shaibu interacted with school administrators, teachers and students. She commended the management and staff of the institutions for their professionalism, commitment and invaluable contributions to the provision of quality education while instilling sound moral that impact positively in all the children within the military community and the larger public.

In recognition of her dedication and outstanding service, Dr Safiyyah presented cash rewards and palliatives to the teaching and non-teaching staff, describing them as indispensable partners towards embibing intellectual, moral foundation and character to mould our future generation of leaders.

The outreach continued at the 29 Battalion, where the President was warmly received by a large gathering of members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA). Addressing the women, Dr Shaibu urged them to remain steadfast in supporting their spouses by maintaining peaceful and stable homes, noting that a united and supportive family remains fundamental to operational effectiveness which supports the successful discharge of the Nigerian Army’s constitutional responsibilities.

In a demonstration of compassion and solidarity, Dr Shaibu also met with widows of fallen heroes, where she expressed profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by their late husbands in the service of the nation. She reassured them of NAOWA’s unwavering commitment to their wellbeing.

The humanitarian outreach culminated at the Military Hospital, Port Harcourt, where the President NAOWA visited sick women and children receiving ongoing medical care. She engaged warmly with the patients, offering words of encouragement, assistance. The visit culminated with the provision of relief materials to support their treatment and recovery of the patients.

The day’s engagements underscored Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu’s visionary and compassionate leadership, as well as NAOWA’s enduring resolve to complement the Nigerian Army’s efforts through the promotion of quality education for women and family empowerment initiatives, others include the provision of healthcare support and social welfare initiatives for military personnel and their families.

The activities further highlighted the Association’s commitment to strengthening family cohesion, improving the welfare of military households and sustaining programmes that positively impact the lives of personnel, widows and other vulnerable members of the Nigerian Army community in line with the objectives of the NADCEL 2026.
