Rahama Sadau Back to Kannywood? Banned Actress Promotes New Hausa Movie
Rahama Sadau seems to be fully back to Kannywood.
Yesterday, the actress took to Twitter to hold a Q&A on her debut production, Rariya, a movie which ‘talks about the lifestyle, education and parenting of some northern Nigerian school girls’.
Rariya, which features Kannywood legend, Ali Nuhu, and other acts, is a feminist production aimed at empowering women in her society. “The fact that I want Us (Women) to feel the power that we have instead of being implausible,” Rahama said when asked the idea behind the movie.
This comes months after the actress was banned from Kannywood by Motion pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) following her appearance in singer ClassiQ’s music video, where she played his love interest. The ban caused massive outrage but it also brought new opportunities to the actress’ doorstep; Mo Abudu announced that she cast Rahama in a new EbonyLife TV series, Sons of the Caliphate, and then the actress was invited by singer Akon and producer Jeta Amata to a set in Hollywood.
Now, Rahama Sadau seems to be back to featuring in Kannywood films, plus the trailer is being promoted on the Kannywood blog.
And this leads to the question: was the ban lifted?
Speaking with pressmen in October, the Secretary General of MOPPAN Salisu Mohammad said the ban would not be lifted. But the actress’ new production tells a new story.
