Raise The Bar: COAS Tasks Newly Promoted Officers On Solution-Driven Leadership

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly promoted senior officers to embrace problem-solving, strategic thinking and exemplary leadership in their new roles. The COAS gave the charge today, Friday, 5 December 2025 during investiture ceremony of the newly promoted Brigadier Generals serving in the Army Headquarters Department, Abuja.

The COAS, represented by Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, urged the senior officers to lead by example, inspire their teams and drive innovation in addressing operational and administrative issues. He highlighted the need for them to prioritize personnel welfare and foster a culture of accountability and professionalism.

The COAS affirmed that promotion was a privilege, earned through rigorous exercise, commitment to duty, hard work and unrelenting dedication to national service. He urged the officers to brace up for more responsibilities and to continually uphold the tenets of discipline, integrity, accountability as well as mentor young officers and lead them by example.

“The promotion has placed you at the critical management level of the Nigerian Army, which deals with problem-solving,” the COAS said. He further stated that, the current security challenges are dynamic and charged them to function effectively and contribute meaningfully towards addressing them.

The Army Chief emphasized the importance of civil-military cooperation, inter-agency collaboration, troop’s welfare in line with his command philosophy which focus of professional excellence, robust administration, operational readiness, strategic cooperation and exemplary leadership.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi, noted that the current strategic environment requires thinking beyond tactics. He charged the senior officers to confront emerging threats with boldness, creativity and professionalism while upholding the values of courage, integrity, fairness and selflessness. He urged them to be advocates of the COAS Command Philosophy, internalize its pillars and translate them into tangible outcomes in their command. He also appreciated the spouses of the newly decorated senior officers for keeping the home front safe and shaping the accomplished senior officers.

In his vote of thanks on behalf of the newly decorated senior officers, Brigadier General Nanpon Gambo thanked the Almighty God for their elevation. He expressed profound gratitude to the COAS for recognizing their efforts and finding them worthy of the elevation and pledged to continue upholding the values and standards of the Nigerian Army with relentless dedication.

He also expressed gratitude to Principal Staff Officers and colleagues for their guidance and mentorship, while acknowledging the contributions of their spouses and loved ones towards their career progression.
