Rivers State: Seven corpses found in a pit

Seven corpses found in a pit

Residents of troubled Obibi community in Etche local government area of Rivers state have made a shocking discovery, Daily Post reports. Reports say at least seven dead bodies were found inside a pit in the community, with close sources in the area explaining that the unidentified bodies were discovered following fresh violence in the area.
“There is a pit along Obibi where we saw the dead bodies. They are all male and we have reported to the community leaders. There have been heavy gun shooting since last weekend.
“We don’t know if it was the recent shooting that caused the death of the men. We want the police to come and see things for themselves,” the source informed. Preliminary investigations show, however, that the victims may have been killed during a cult-related shootout in Obibi in the community last week.
Sources reveal further that the bitter political rivalry in the state may have been the backbone of the recent clash, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to release results of the legislative rerun election in the state.
Ahmad Muhammad, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, said the security men were yet to get any information about the incident. Following the violence that marred the March 19 rerun election in the state, Barrister (Dr) Anthony Orunkoya beamed the search light on some of the crucial factors militating against a peaceful and smooth conduct of election in the country.
