Security Agents Raid Former VP Namadi Sambo’s Kaduna Residence
Security operatives on Wednesday reportedly carried out a raid on the Kaduna residence of former Vice-President Namadi Sambo for reasons yet to be established.
The security agents who were said to have arrived the house on Alimi Road, Kaduna in a bus, two Hilux vans and a bullion van, spent about 2 hours searching the house.
“They came with heavily armed security personnel for two hours, between 3:00pm and 5:00pm,” a source close to the former VP said.
Journalists who arrived Sambo’s residence upon being alerted were turned back by the security operatives who also threatened to shoot at the newsmen.
It may however not be the first time a raid of Namadi Sambo’s residence has been carried out from what was gathered from witnesses in the area.
One resident said the house had been searched on several occasions.
“We are not sure whether this time, they found something in the house. The presence of the bullion van raised our suspicion,” the witness said.
A source close to Sambo said the security agencies had raided the house for the fifth time and insisted nothing was found.
“I want to assure you that, this time, again, nothing would be found because the former VP is not a corrupt person. He served this country in several capacities and has never been found wanting,” the source told the Daily Sun.
In February 2016, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) carried out a similar search of Namadi Sambo’s office in Abuja as part of investigations into the illegal disbursement of funds by former national security adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
The former NSA had allegedly told investigators probing the diversion of arms fund that he paid N20million to Sambo’s office on a monthly basis.
